Just a step away from “unperson”

In yesterday’s Independent newspaper, there was an article that is really chilling. British terror suspects quietly stripped of citizenship… then killed by drones.

As near as I can figure, there’s no reason why the practices described there couldn’t apply to anyone British – such as me, for example. The purpose, as hinted by my choice of heading for this post, seems to be precisely to deny human rights to a person. Theresa May might claim that citizenship is a privilege, not a right, but a great many of the basic rights are protected by citizenship.

I can’t really add anything to the original piece except to state again my fear and anger that the government is willing and able to do this. Oh yeah, and appeal to “the rule of law” has always struck me as a poor justification for something, especially when this is perfectly legal.
